I think this is about someone who likes this girl and he just wants to spend so much time with her and only caring about what she has to offer and never looks at himself. He says “what’s the meanest you can be to the one you claim to love” and “I won’t hear I’ll just go fast to this night on broken legs” meaning he isn’t listening to what she has to say and he just assumes he’s doing nothing wrong. “What’s the closest you can come to an almost total wreck” how close they get to breaking up and then he just “walks away all limbs intact” ignoring the whole situation like nothing ever happened, but then doing it again and again. By the time he finally knows what he’s doing wrong, it’s already too late “I got to you there was nothing left” The title “accident prone” is referring to how much he does this and how he doesn’t mean to do this but he keeps doing it and doesn’t notice “scratch my accidents into the wall” he’s tally marking/keeping track because of how many times he’s done this. |

I think this song is about being too scared to confess your love for someone before it’s too late and they move on. The lines “before it kills you now let it all out” show to just go for it. “I used to let rumors do my work” means that the person never actually confessed he just let the word spread into that person found out. But this time they wanna say it straight to their face |
