Joni Mitchell – Harry's House/Centerpiece Lyrics 9 months ago
@[TrueThomas:53222] Excellent interpretation. I must say I grew up with this Album and grew to understand the lyrics with each passing decade some of the interpretations, I had at 17 changed, at 25, and again at 30, 40 50 etc.

I was in my first year of college ( 1975) when this album was released so I missed or didn't understand some of the lyrics, but I just enjoyed the melodies and musical talent and sonic qualities of the album. This was my second favorite Joni album. Court and Spark was my first favorite.

One point you make regarding the "raving" curls. I had a different picture in my mind. In the 60s and 70s Raveen was a popular hair care product used by many Black women and was a prominently adverstised in Ebony and Jet Magazines in that time period. ( African American Journals) I only mention this, because during many of my listening sessions back in the 70s, I often wondered how did Joni know about Raveen products and black models since she was a product of Saskatoon, Canada. I completely get it now, we all grow and learn. My Dad never understood how I, a 17 year black kid from Columbus, Georgia could be such a fan of a Canadian born folk singer. He thought the lyrics to her songs were so sad. Maybe they were to someone that loved Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, BB King and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

So cheers to "Skinny Black Models with Raveen Curls" and thanks for sharing your interpreation.
