Wonderful and thoughtful comments on this very deep song. For what it's worth, I consider it a song not about a clandestine affair, though it might encompass that, but about accepting the end of life and embracing what life brought, in all its polar opposites, and letting go. |

Very early in his career, when he went as Robert Gunnn, Dylon played piano for C&W band, but he could only play chord piano in the key of C. The rest of the time, he played a tambourine. |

A bird sitting on a power line is not electrocuted because it's ungrounded. I'm pretty sure that's what Cohen meant, having grown up in the 50s and 60s with above ground power lines everywhere. Ungrounded, uncentered, searching for meaning but knowing what he loved. BTW Kriss Kristoferson has said he will engrave the first verse on his headstone. |
