James Taylor – Copperline Lyrics 11 months ago
James Taylor is one of the best lyricists of the 21st Century! Carly Simon said that his “prose” is absolutely stunning in it’s complexity and meaning. Copperline is a song about his childhood experiences along Morgan Creek in South Carolina where he would go every week end with his father. One gets the feeling that some of the old timer’s had a still down on Morgan Creek called the “copperline” because of the copper coils and still’s sitting side-by-each. He recalls seeing his father dance like a “man in a trance”, something that he brought back from the “War in France” (2nd World War). He also speaks of his first love taking place down on Morgan Creek. This gives the impression that his family had a cabin on Morgan Creek. Finally, he says he goes back to visit the Copperline, but that it is now all tract housing “tore up, tore-up good” but that it doesn’t matter because the destruction of his childhood playground “can’t touch his memories” as he lift’s up on an airline flying over Copperline! It is a beautiful song packed with so much meaning characteristic of James Taylor’s musical style! Wonderful!
