| "Natures way struck grief in me, and I became a ghost in sickness" Makes me think about industrialism distancing us from nature and devaluing individuals for mass production. "Willingly guided into heresy, beneath the surface, stark emptiness" We gave up our place in nature and destroyed it for pleasantries and conveniences that make us dependant on an unfullfilling way of life. "And you'd pity my conviction, whereas I thought of myself as a leader" shows how we see our contributions to this system we've built as helpful to humanity but there are many who realize we're dooming ourselves and have become blind to the real consequences of our actions. The whole first verse really just makes me think he's making a point about how we constructed our own folly and commit to it despite how its twisted us and the world around us. | |
