many years later, i think the quick engagement indicates that Ryan was possibly having an affair with Scarlett for a while before Alanis made him leave. Scarlett and Ryan’s engagement happened suddenly and, when questioned, Scarlett insisted that she acknowledged how quick it seemed but that she knew the marriage was serious.
