| (Sandy) Alex G – Harvey Lyrics | 1 year ago |
|
I always thought Harvey represented like the child within himself. We're constantly chasing the freedom and wonder we had when we were children, though the process of "maturing" is seen as rejecting that. That's why the last line always makes me tear up. "He wakes up in the middle of the night I run in and turn on the light Run my hands through his short black hair I love you, Harvey, I don't care" Even though we're going to be told to abandon Harvey, we're always going to chase him. In the end, the song's narrator acknowledges that he loves that part of himself, even though society has taught him that life is based on success. I cann't captured all of the subtlety of the song in my explanation, though, so make of this what you will. |

| Elliott Smith – Pictures of Me Lyrics | 1 year ago |
| not flirting with the "flicks," flirting with the flits, which is old slang for a homosexual man. I'm 95% sure Elliott was thinking about The Catcher in the Rye, as the word is used frequently in the book. Makes sense cause the song has some thematic similarities to the book. I might be wrong though. | |
