@[TheMissJayelle:52518] I love this song too. Ever since I heard it when I was a child. Every time I listened to it, I always got this bittersweet feeling -- even though I didn't completely understand the meaning of the lyrics at the time. Listening to this song now after watching the movie again (at 26 years old), I believe the singer is having a conversation with time itself. This song touches on the feelings of regret, losing time or rather, not having enough of it. Yet, there is still a strong sense of hope in the lyrics, which conveys a powerful and touching message. In the lyrics you're referring to, I believe the singer is continuing the conversation with time. She is feeling betrayed by time, "but you -- you don't seem to care". Time doesn't stop and sometimes we're not always ready to move with it, hence why she is feeling humbled by time. The lyrics in brackets might be the voice of time speaking back to her. Saying "I'm just an illusion" and "I don't mean to hurt you". Time isn't actually real, it's a concept we've created as humans, and so - it can't actually hurt us. This is my understanding and I hope it helps. |
