@[Christopher1974:52455] While your comment is really old, I want to answer in case anyone reading as this is a question of Black culture, especially Black culture in inner city areas. I grew up in one in the 90s. Basically, the braiding of a man's hair is sort of an intimate thing, often something reserved for an important woman in the man's life, like his mother or his girl. My own man had a female friend braid his hair at a hostel, and I got really upset, because it is not something a stranger should do unless at a salon. Hair is very intimate. Him singing "c'mon and braid my hair" is an indication of how much he misses his mom. The song is partially dedicated to his mom and that part is specifically about her. Hope this helped! |
