Porter Robinson – Flicker Lyrics 1 year ago
Translates roughly to "im just trying to find out whats important". Which, in some ways, makes this interpretation I'm now writing, a "self-fulfilling prophecy", as I search for meaning in a song that holds only the singular repeating lyric "Im just trying to find out whats important", which makes it kind of "meta" if you think about it lol.

Porter Robinson – Fellow Feeling Lyrics 1 year ago
This is an interesting song, as I believe it was attempted to show meaning through both the lyrical content/conditions and the musical composition interacting to form a single narrative. So, instead of the music simply setting the tone for what the lyrics were about, they serve as equal metaphorical images.
I see the song as having 3 sections. The first is representing beauty, wonder, intrigue, existentialism, etc, as an emotive, epic symphony. The second section right after verse 1, cuts in abruptly, interrupting the angelic strings with bras, rough and convoluted, hard and dirty beats, chopped up in a complex manor, almost glitchy, if you will. This part represents the counter part to the initial beauty. The contrasting element seems to be a polar opposite, but your interpretation drastically changes the moment the 3rd section begins. The unlikely pairing of opposites, the convergence of the beautiful and the ugly, an unexpected mesh of contrasting elements that together, create a perfect balance of energy and appreciation for the effect music can have on the listener. Think the "yin and yang", which represents the perfect duality of light and dark, good and evil, an equilibrium of competitive forces which require one another to be in balance and cancel each other out. This metaphor is of course seem across all time, and all cultures, through their symbolism, especially ones of a symmetrical quality.

Porter Robinson – Years Of War Lyrics 1 year ago
Cambridge Dictionary defines "Streets of Gold" as
"said about a place where it is easy to get rich, or where people imagine that it is:
Immigrant families soon discovered that the streets of New York were not paved with gold."
It may also be noteworthy that "The Wizard of Oz was a commentary about the 'ongoing debates over the gold-standard monetary policy of the times'. The yellow brick road serves as a direct metaphor to the creation of the gold standard."
Also, given the release date of the song, which, without checking, I wanna guess its around 2012, roughly 200 years before would be 1812.
Which of course brings to mind: "The War of 1812 was a conflict between the United States and Great Britain that lasted from 1812 to 1815. It was the first major test of the American republic on the world stage. The war was fought over a number of issues." Many theorize that it wasnt so much of a 3 year war, but rather the beginning of a string of conflicts that some would say is still going on to this day.
In simpler terms, I think this song is like a call for a regime change, a call for "a war to end all wars", so, fighting a war with the intent of ending the conflict, rather than holding rank as the top dog of the world.
