I think most of us agree this is about domestic violence, an abusive relationship. But most of the comments I've read seem to all be one sided... my personal interpretation is that it's dual sided and in 3 simple parts... Spoken from my point of view: 1.) He didn't truly know who she was when it started. They went too fast. She started abusing him. 2.) He had enough, he wanted her to feel his pain so without even realizing it, he became her and got revenge. 3.) Oh God, what have I done? Who have I become? I tried standing up to her but went about it the wrong way. That's not who I am, she's retaliating and enjoying it. Kill me before the cycle continues. Lyrical Breakdown: "I watched you change Into a fly" - Since our relationship started you've changed into this annoying pestering "thing". "I looked away You were on fire" - over time I don't know when it seemed over night you're just so angry, so evil, so mean... you've become a demon ("on fire") "I watched a change in you It's like you never had wings And you feel so alive" - When we met you were my angel. Now you're not. It's as if you never were... and even worse you seem to enjoy being this wretched person... "I took you home Set you on the glass I pulled off your wings Then I laughed" - I took you out for a wonderful evening upon coming home you're feeling so great I put you on this pedestal treated you like my angel again... But I've had enough of this abuse. How wonderful does it feel? It's time for you to see how I've been feeling... I've stooped to your level, knocked you down a peg... yeah that'll teach you... "I look at the cross And I look away" -a religious reference, I've fallen from grace. Became someone I don't recognize. I'm a disgrace my guilt is eating away at me. I can't turn to God, i have to look away. What have i done... "Give you the gun Blow me away" - retaliating against her, I fell victim to revenge, and it only made things worse. I stooped to her level, I literally gave her the gun that she'll use against me now, and I expect it, I willingly beg for this mercy... |
