This is one of those songs that has that catchy guitar riff that grabs immediate attention that pulls you right into it, despite having lyrics that are more poetic than clear. Like so many one-offs of the charts in the sixties this song was yet another very distinct sound that contrasted its individuality among so many others. It was an age of psychedelic diversity, a tapestry of experimental wonders. |

I always thought the lyrics were just the scaffolding to create one of the most ambitious progressive rock songs of the time. I can listen to this song forever and it’s not the lyrics, it’s the music and precision of production that makes it so mind blowing. Of course, I was in a state of rebirth at the time I first heard County Fair so that may bias my opinion ;-). A most awesome work of art to this day! |
