| Similar to cresun's interpretation, I feel the meaning of this song revolves around a guardian angel, a spiritual guide, a higher being leading them, however you'd like to think of it. Said being inspires and guides the person, a voice in their head if you will. 'Half a world away' implies this being is of a higher realm, another dimension perhaps. Their influence helps drive the individual and inspires them to do good. This influence could also be interpreted as God leading said person, or, if I may, a more intelligent being telepathically communicating with the person and guiding them to greatness. | |

My interpretation of this song is that the person in question is being spoken to by God. Just as God commanded Abraham to sacrifice his son, God is commanding this person to perform some heinous deed. By completing this deed it will, in a way, restore order or bring peace, if you will. The man is told to rest after committing said deed, and is clearly emotional as a result of the terrible actions taken. The person is hearing god in his head, in his dreams. This makes him think himself crazy, yet he knows he is sane. It makes him realize there is more to life, more truth out there that he cannot see, yet surely he is not blind. He's attempting to see the truth, but he's being distracted by the reality he lives in, yet God is offering him a glimpse of truth. Nothing equals the splendor of God. Life, and memory, is eternal for God and those that join him in heaven. By committing God's deeds this person is given a purpose. They must give their life in payment for said deeds and surely their destination is heaven. |
