The Dresden Dolls – Sing Lyrics 1 year ago
Just a little note. The end line "life is no cabaret" is a reference to the musical Cabaret as the line "life is a cabaret" is repeated at various points during the show.Knowing the band's appreciation for the musical(them doing a cover of I Don't Care Much),it wouldn't suprise me.Cabarets message is about the dangers of being politically ignorant so i think twisting that line to being no cabaret is talking about despite the sometimes taboo topics of the Dresden dolls music(abortion,SA,mental illness etc.) we should still listen and enjoy the music.

The Dresden Dolls – Sex Changes Lyrics 1 year ago
I always thought this song was a satire/parody of how the far right think of gender reassignment surgery with the transphobic idea of people regretting their surgeries(the reminder of "tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow")and the brutal imagery("CHOP your clock off","keep on CUTTING")which,as far as I've seen,is how transphobes think of gender reassignment as something violent and/or predatory and i think in this song those ideas are played for laughs and/or a political message
