In 1944, Mr. Siegel obtained financing to build & operate the Flamingo Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. By the time the casino was opened on December 26, 1946, the project was $3,000,000 over budget and some believed that Mr. Siegel’s best gal, Virginia Hill, squeezed a couple million from the budget and dumped it into a Swiss bank account. Mr. Siegel paid the price in June 1947 in Beverley Hills and Ms. Hill later testified before a congressional subcommittee on ladies of the mob. Her testimony can be found on YouTube. | |
