Norma Jean – Aria Obscura Lyrics 1 year ago
To me the song is about the contradiction between religious people and religion itself. Most belief systems or religions on the surface, are about peace, love, and understanding. However, the members always seem to forget those tenets and believe their religion or belief should be wielded as a weapon to change how other people think and behave.
For example "it takes knees on the ground, it takes heads looking down - AT ANYONE BUT YOURSELF"

It's easy to pray for other people that are not behaving in a way you want them to but it takes real work to look at yourself honestly and make the changes needed to be the best person you can be.

It's easy to look at the world and say "This is why everything sucks" even though you haven't made an ounce of effort to make it a better place.

Corey and Norma Jean as a band acknowledge "I'm not perfect" but you don't have to be perfect in your faith to be self-aware enough to know you need to do better before you can criticize anyone else for their behaviors and beliefs. We're all on our own journey and we just need to lift each other up not tear each other down.
