Papa Roach – Swerve Lyrics 1 year ago
Short: (Traumatized young men write a song to look tough, but every verse shows their fear and insecurities. Leaves little to no room for interpretation.)
Long: Nothing says "I want to look tough and cool but I'm actually just very young and sad" like "So back up or it's bang bang bang get smacked up if you ain't gang, gang, gang" (shoot anyone who comes here and isn't in my little gang). So a 90's rap gangster song that teens/20yos write and want us to think it's cool. They also want us to think it's cool to be "quick to kill anyone who "messes with us"." In reality it's clear they are just hurting inside and this is like a juvenile way to disguise it. This song leaves very little way to interpret it other than sad young people copying other sad young ppl gangster rap songs. Some songs just have lyrics that are very shallow, materialistic, and immature and this is just one of them. It wants attention from all the sad kid egos. And all of this is okay, as everyone is allowed to handle their trauma in their art in their own way. We could say oh, this is just a terrible, awful cringe song (lol). But from a mature perspective, making fun of them and their trauma doesn't make sense. While it's obviously not a song for those of us who have grown and healed, bless the writer's hearts, they're just expressing their feelings in the only way they know how, and letting them vent is the best gift we fellow humans have given them. 💗
