I went to highschool with her, she’s a lovely human, fiercely intelligent and powerfully loving. I know the truth behind this. It’s about an older boyfriend who took something from her that she wasn’t ready to give. Make of it what you will but it will make more sense now. We were about 16 when she wrote this. It wasn’t a secret at the time but then she got famous so I hope I’m not betraying her by saying this. She’s been a devout Christian since we were kids so she’s coming from a place of strong Christian values when she talks about wanting him to be better and seeking council of church leaders when she “tried everything that they told me to do”. True story. If you listen you’ll hear it. She is indeed a loving person and “I loved you til it killed me, so my logic (making you feel rejected by virtue of my Christian values) wouldn’t hurt you” is testament to how empathetic and giving she is. She’s a good soul. |
