Mother Mother – Simply Simple Lyrics 1 year ago
As someone who is extremely fond of this song, this is my personal interpretation.
To me, this song is about someone that wants to feel loved, despite being problematic, immature (reinforced when they call themselves a big baby/say they'll throw a fit), and harmful; despite that, the person isn't necessarily bad, as I interpretate those lines not in an abusive tone, but rather in a self-blaming one (and also, the peaceful, but quite upbeat music that accompanies the lyrics make the song feel like a vent, not a claim). This person warns their lover that their attitude may not always be the best, and that some of their attitudes might seem abusive, but even so, they're slowly trying to become themselves, that they still have to work on themselves, "let their soul free". They seek this feeling of comfort and acceptation from their partner, despite having some minor troubles with commitment to change, as they don't want to harm their lover, but still try their best whenever they can.
Honestly, as a neurodivergent person that has gone through something similar, I absolutely relate to this song, and that's why I came with this interpretation lmao. Also, I think the dude/gal from this song may be neurodivergent as well, since in other songs from Eureka (same Mother Mother album) like Problems or Aspiring Fires, they call themselves crazy and say they have problems, things that I have said myself.
