Fleet Foxes – Mykonos Lyrics 1 year ago
I think the song is about being done with someone who constantly makes bad decisions and is slightly delusional, but hopes for reconciliation.
The poor decisions are responsible for ruining relationships. Essentially destroying everything he touches before moving on to some other fantasy.
"The door slammed loud and rose up a cloud of dust on us" to me signifies a fight that led to the end of a friendship or relationship.
"Footsteps follow down to the hollow sound" ...being alone and empty.
Mykomos is not a gentle coast. It's rocky. The narrator uses Mykomos as a symbol of the others delusional pursuits and vain attempts at happiness.
Pallid animals signifies neglect.
Seeds from your own thin mind signifies the self destructive and selfish of the other.
In other words the narrator is dealing with the mess the other left.
The turn around (or second half of the song) signifies the narrator's love for the other, in this case a brother or close friend and his willingness to forgive.
He reflects on the other's downfall and hopes he will one day value future or past relationships.
