| Kula Shaker – Govinda Lyrics

The song is a traditional song from India about Sri Krishna (Krsna) the 8th avatar of Vishnu. Although I cannot read/understand sanskrit i'm familiar with some of the words.
Govinda and Gopala are both words relating to Krsna's childhood on a farm. I believe Govinda translates into something like the "God of Cows" and Gopala is something similar. "Jaya" means roughly "Glory be to". Radha was Krsna's partner (the most important of many). |

As already mentioned the song is a rip off of a Velvet Underground song. Nevertheless the new album is easily the best one they've done in a long long time. This song however is probably my least favourite on there. |

Its a great tune. As other people have mentioned the voices are from the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970. Incidentally the drum beat in the song is another example of Oasis "borrowing" parts of other artists work, listen to Little Miss Lover by Jimi Hendrix. |

The song was written in the middle of the night on an ironing board using burnt matches. He was 20 years old when the recording was made but sings with the emotion and experience of someone much older. |

The song could be about Robert Johnson, the first line is almost certainly a reference point and there are parallels between Johnson and the lifestyle portrayed in the song.
Generally its about being incomplete without something, whether its a girl or his guitar or whatever. The person never feels complete without it. |

| The Allman Brothers Band – Jessica Lyrics

The piece is named after Dickey Betts daughter Jessica.
In Britain the main riff is known as the theme music to a popular motoring show "Top Gear". As a result many people here simply think it was written for the show and are surprised to learn of the original piece. |

| The Allman Brothers Band – Ain't Wastin' Time No More Lyrics

One of my favourite songs of all time, I love the way the verses progress, examining his brothers death on an ever bigger scale.
The first verse seems to be Gregg coming to terms with Duane's death himself. After this he notices his friends feeling the same way and tells them get on with living their lives. The final verse goes even further talking about creating a better world for everyone.
Its an unbelievably positive and inspirational reaction to something so traumatic to someone. |

I understand the song is a tribute to Dickey Betts girlfriend of the time Sandy "Bluesky". The two of them had a daughter Jessica who was the inspiration for the song of the same name.
Amazing song. |

| U2 – Where The Streets Have No Name Lyrics
| 20 years ago

As others have pointed out the song is supposed to suggest multiple meanings and be interpreted by the listener in their own way. Again as others have suggested, it seems to be generally about Africa and how it has been neglected and forgotten by "the west" whose systems and actions are largely to blame for the conditions many on the continent find themselves in.
Others here have also noted Bono's trips to Ethiopia, the verse with the lines "the citys a flood" and the "place high on a desert plain, where the streets have no name" is almost certainly a reference to the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa where indeed the vast majority of the streets have no official names and are not signposted. |

| Kid Rock – You Never Met A Motherfucker Quite Like Me Lyrics
| 20 years ago
|
I happen to like Kid Rock and Radiohead. The song is nothing to do with Radiohead, its just the same as most other Kid Rock songs, telling you about his life in a mildly amusing way.
The reference in the video is just a cheeky little dig at Radiohead, no big deal. I like both but theres obviously a difference in the kind of music they make. Radiohead take their music extremely seriously, where as Kid Rock although serious in some respects is just about him having a ball. Critics of Kid Rock often highlight that he has nothing to say and his songs all follow a similar theme, which is largely true. However there is no point in Kid Rock trying to be "inventive" like Radiohead because thats just not who he his. |

Most of the song is about him repeatedly going back to a woman who hurts him because he cannot resist her. However it changes in the last verse where its "her turn to cry" when he decides he's finally going to leave. |

As with most of skynyrds songs a simple but effective message. No matter how much you think you have in this world, you still have to give it up when you die. Its pretty much summed up in the last line of the chorus. |

| Audioslave – Drown Me Slowly Lyrics
|
I think the song is something to do with Chris' feeling he has more purpose to his life. Other people have commented that out of exile is a more positive sounding album than soundgarden and the previous audioslave album maybe because of this new found purpose. The second verse in particular seems to be referring to touring the world with a "bad taste in his mouth". He went around the world not being able to get rid of it and has now learned that it is a "sickness" that he needs to get rid of, but cannot do it in one go. Therefore this previous outlook needs to be drowned slowly.
Thats what I get anyway |
