The Cardigans – Gordon's Gardenparty Lyrics 1 year ago
"Nancy, Jacques Clouseau and Claire"

The only lyric I could make sense of because Jacques Clouseau is definitely specific reference to the inspector from the Pink Panther. I'm guessing the other names could be references to other fictional detectives? Nancy obviously to Nancy Drew, and Claire possibly to Claire Malloy? Could be a bit of a stretch.

This makes me think that "You in brown checked suit" could refer to Sherlock Holmes, considering his iconic plaid look being exactly that.

Although "You had Rose's lime, mixed with vodka..." actually makes me think about Philip Marlowe's gimlet in The Long Goodbye

I suppose if we're sticking to references to famous-ish (Sorry Claire) detectives "Gordon's Gardenparty" could be a reference to Jim Gordon? Though I don't know enough about the character to know if this connection makes sense.

"pink champagne on ice" is likely a reference to Hotel California, but whereas in Hotel California the meaning appears to be looking using rose-tinted glasses at the rough situation in LA at the time, I'm not sure how it connects in this song.

@[sneeuwitje:50687] Claire Nevers couldn't have anything to do with this? Not only she is a completely irrelevant person (had to look it up to even find who she is), this song was released in 1995. Claire Nevers' first role was in 2004.
