I feel really that this song is about a girl that is on the verge of being a woman in that she still plays pinball and works at the arcade, probably where she spent countless summers, etc. she is teetering on a thin line, a wire really of who she is, because she is partying and hanging out pretending life is just around the corner. She has dreams and she has hopes that come alive when she is high on cocaine and inevitably she comes down only to face the facts. she is depressed, poor and already living beyond her means because she wastes her whole paycheck on coke. She makes due by slipping into her familiar orange vest where here, she has a high score to beat. (its not out of reach) as is everything else in her life. she thought she'd be in her own place, she'd be more driven, motivated. She was, not too long ago. where yesterdays were celebrated....she needs the pull from cocaine even if she is losing her shit. She has a job, at least. Her paycheck sucks and shes actually hungry for food as well as dopamine. Nothing beats that surge of hope she gets from her fix on payday tho and all she can do is try to use that good feeling and ride it somewhere until tomorrow, a mile for all our sorrow, hey jane. I promise you that things will change.... |
