I’m taking it fairly literally as alien (outsider) invasion, but it echoes people being subjugated to oppressive invaders a la Nazis. The “it was just a laugh” part reminds me of stories of f’ed up things Nazis would do if anyone did anything they didn’t like, even something like a small laugh. |

The asteroid belt is 90 million miles from earth. I think it’s the perspective of an asteroid that could fall out of orbit (at any moment) and fall to earth “drowning” in the ocean, and yes wiping out all civilization.
The earth is 93 million miles away from the sun, so I guess this could also be the earth falling into the sun. |
