They only witnessed the crime because of their affair. They could have saved her, but instead of choosing to help, before or after the crime, they committed another crime. Not a legal one, but a moral one. They kept quiet, and placed their reputations above the other woman's life. They have to live the rest of their lives with that guilt.* |
