Petra – Computer Brains Lyrics 7 months ago
This song plays on a computer programmer's mantra, "garbage in, garbage out." If you write sloppy programming code, it won't come out right. The song compares the human mind to a computer. If you "program" your brain with anger, self-pity, and bitterness, only unhappiness can result. However, Philippians 4:8 reminds us "whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things."

@[destroyalltacos:52594] that's a good one! I never thought of the song that way, but it totally makes sense.

They Might Be Giants – Minimum Wage Lyrics 1 year ago
A very simple song. The phrase "minimum wage" followed by the sound of a whip cracking. This suggests to me that working for minimum wage is much like being a slave under the master's lash. A person who takes a minimum wage job generally doesn't have a lot of career options, and so they tolerate some pretty poor working conditions.

@[razajac:52593] wow. That's deep. I've been a huge fan of TMBG for years and the lyrics to "Whistling in the Dark" have always been a mystery to me. Thank you for your thoughtful interpretation.

@[scandor:50046] I agree that the blue canary nigh light was referring to lighthouses being its' "primitive ancestry." I've though thought of it beling anything else.

@[davewoody:50045] I never really thought about the last line of the song on its own, without context. You make a good point.

They Might Be Giants – Hearing Aid Lyrics 1 year ago
I can relate to the line "More coffee for me, boss/`cause I'm not as messed up as I want to be." I never drank coffee until I got an early morning job and I started drinking mocha to get me going. I added a LOT of chocolate flavor and started telling people that "I only drink coffee if it's flavored beyond recognition."

They Might Be Giants – Hearing Aid Lyrics 1 year ago
I had to sign up just to say this. "Hearing Aid" is a song about an unpleasant boss, and while I was reading other comments an ad came on which featured . . . a former unpleasant boss! In the words of Steven Wright, "it's a small world--but I wouldn't want to paint it."
