Really interesting to hear everybody's takes on this, political prisoner, psychiatric interned, lab animals, Jesus talking to his disciples, Birdy....

Great songs can and should be interpreted to what makes sense to you, in your reality, experience and views of the world reality, and you relate to it in your way. In this case, given Gabriel political implications, interviews and previous songs like Biko, which is clearly about a precise situation, I would tend to believe it's about political imprisonment, but knowing Gabriel, and he's a master at it, his songs have many levels of interpretation, it can about all those things mentioned, and probably many more...

And there is almost always some autobiographic content in songs, I could well also a bit about himself, when he was in the very very strict Charterhouse private school, where he notoriously unhappy and was dreaming of freedom.
