i was recommended to listen to this artist by my tattoo artist today after we started talking about Crystal Castles - here are my thoughts after a single listen-through of the track's chorus: "my face is falling, my face is falling off" which will serve as my interpretation of the entire song's underlying meaning i believe this to be the most unsettling component of the song and is what stood out most to me from the entire track - if we are assuming the storyteller's face isn't literally falling off (hopefully 🙏), i think this is a very crepuscular/abstract way the storyteller is trying to convey that they are losing their ability to display themself in a presentable way to others, or they want to not be seen by others in their current state (physical/emotional/other) - i believe this because a face is an extremely unique characteristic that a person possesses, and likely everyone they will encounter in their lives will think of your face when they think of you so it is essentially a metaphor for representing their entire being - with the face also being possibly the most expressive part of your body that the owner has a massive amount of control of many aspects of how others interpret it (smiling, mouthing something under your breath, whatever) and is the most prominent physical part of a person's body someone else will use to make quick character judgements about that person that was a lot of digression and random tangents, but i think the storyteller repeats these lines so much throughout the song to convey that she is losing her ability to control herself due to very complex emotions being experienced tl;dr: this song is an extreme cry for help from a person who is experiencing immense pain(s), so immense that they are causing her an inability to even express what she is experiencing |
