Walking in a flashlight beam? If I only knew where? Wouldn't it be great if we could travel ahead of ourselves to the future for the answer and then find me in 2024 in Casa Grande... |

| Howie Day – Numbness For Sound Lyrics

I first heard this Howie Day song back in the year 2005; it gave me the chills (in an awesome way) back then, and it still does today in the year 2024 - it also makes me cry. It is one of those perfect songs - beautifully and brutally honest. I read the other comments and I am really excited to share what I think every opinion somehow missed (no disrespect intended)...I was born in Montreal, Canada, and ventured out many, many weekends to downtown bars and clubs...I am not sure what his 'feet underground" means but I am pretty certain that he is outside in the cold at one point, having a cigarette after doing a few shots of whiskey. I originally thought he wrote it in between performing on stage in a club. It also somehow makes me think of a time when I was living on the streets of Los Angeles homeless, I was in the world but not part of it and very sensitive to the sound of the traffic - I would look for places to sleep that were set off the street, hidden behind things for safety. His lyrics, are absolute poetry. Howie if you read this one day, you are seriously talented writer...the lyrics "I'm alseep on a shoulder that I've never met..."; I know exactly what you mean. I've read a lot of lyrics in 58 years of life being a huge fan of music, and one of those people who actually read the lyrics, and it's incredibly, striking, beautifully profound the way the song is written "Cold and the whiskey is wearing, and I'm on the edge of my breath..."I've never hear that expression before and it's so descriptive that I can picture you outside having a cigarette, in the cold winter where your have to keep warming your hands and you can see your breathe, maybe in the back alley of a bar or club to take a leak and have a smoke since many places don't allow smoking inside...I have been high and sad and alone many times, and the song rips into my heart in such a beautiful way. It is honestly one of the most powerful and beautiful songs (for me) that I have ever heard. And the end of the song, awesome. There is a foreign film from Quebec called "Love in the time of civil war", and the song reminds me of the tragically beautiful characters in the movie. I envy you in the kindest way...what an incredibly beautiful song; even the title is perfect. Awesome dude; beyond awesome. It's one of those songs that I would love to share with everyone I know who appreciates music, and understands how powerful it is to be broken sometimes and to allow yourself to fall apart, and even cry about it...A fan and admiring friend whom you've never met..GarySamuelBesner in what I think is some kind of unknown prison/recovery system program in Casa Grande, Arizona USA. |
