Addendum- Simply Sacrifice and dying but still Going (to War and then dying) even if My face is in “Blood” (Blood shed) Hands Bound (Protest on why) Shadow Flag (Having Sacrificed for Country/Flag even though the misleading reasons/Nautcious sick feeling) a “Non” Patriot (Hence “Shadow” flag) draped likely over Casket. Then the “Your” Garden of Stone is referring to the Leaders/Gov having the Blood on all the lives Lost for making the misleading decisons and modern needs for WAR. Your Garden Of Stone. @[Bonesmagoo:52483] I have read many many books on Vedder & PJ. I am a Super Fan You can say. Now any interpretation by the Listener has just as much value, right, creedence as “To Each Their Own.” However Eddie as a Narrator was using a Political stance behind the Song. So its about Our Leader/Gov sending Us into War by misleading circumstances as well as modern needs in doing so. The Perspective of coming from the narrator saying he’s willing to Sacrifice Life for His Country/Flag whether there will be blood, and hands bound in protest and the “Shadow Flag” in dying for His Country though its questions the “Patriotic” Flag in doing so. Hence “Shadow” Flag. How is there such Loyalty/Ceremonial/Patriotism for going and killing for “Modern Needs” misleading reasoning. Its G. Bush’s Garden Of Stone. Sending so many to Their Garden. So Eddie is coming from a Protestrial sense. I have read reference from either a remark/quote from EV Himself and or others like Producer and Interviews. Some source. |

So the Song “Garden” Pearl Jam meaning. Firstly Everybody has Their right & opinion to interpret how they see & choose as the listener. However Eddie as the Narrator is clearly talking about One’s Sacrifice for Their Country even though Their views on going to War are misleading, not agreeing or understanding of doing so. If it means to go to War with blood shed, Hands bound (Protest of the Sacrifice) and having to die with the (Shadow Flag) draped meaning dying for the Country but not agreeing how its Patriotic and the Modern needs in doing such! So all the deception and misleading (propaganda/needs) by the Gov/Leaders dec is also Their Garden of Stone. WAR! |

@qube Eddies Birth Name was Edward Louis Severson III. He absolutely wrote these lyrics about His “Real” Father as You said His Approval, His Release into His Own path in Life. Amazing how much Eddie had bottled up and the Genius in Lyrical Poetry. “Momma-Son” that Eddie named the SG-Demo Tape of recordings of the Original Songs “Dollar Short”, “Troubled Times.” “E Ballad,” “Richard E,” and “Egyptian Crave.” The Trigoly was “Dollar Short” -which became “Alive” act One. Then “Egyptian Crave” Act Two which became “Once” and last for the Coda was “Troubled Times.” Act Three. At some point between the time Eddie was notified to travel up to ses Jeff Ament and Stone Godsard to do some Jam Sessions Eddie Wrote the Lyrics to “E-Ballad” which became “Black” Incredibly with all the Happenstance in which seemed almost impossible morphed into what the Rock World Knows as the Band “Pearl Jam” is truly Remarkable! |
