Bruce Springsteen – Johnny 99 Lyrics 1 month ago
One of the fun things about this song is, of course, that there is a mistake in it. It's a demo, and Bruce sings "Ralph" as his protagonist's name in the first verse and then the name changes to "Johnny." In the version he did with the band (you can hear it on the "Electric Nebraska" version on the "Nebraska" release) he corrected it and the name is always "Johnny." But since the demo with the error was released as the formal release, he always sings "Ralph."

John Lennon – God Lyrics 2 years ago
John's cry against idolatry is one of the most moving songs ever written. Nobody did introspection like John Lennon. After listing people and things that people idolize, he realizes that he was one of them. He then sadly observed that that part of his life is over, cleverly referencing a couple of Beatles songs along the way --

"The dream is over, what can I say?

The dream is over... yesterday

I was the dream weaver, but now I'm reborn

I was the Walrus, but now I'm John"

Honestly, I'm not sure there's another person in history who could have written lyrics like that. Just flipping brilliant, moves me to tears almost every time I hear it.
