i think it's about someone who is slipping into complete insanity. They start by feeling out of phase off center and offcell, then they feel like there is a big hole in their heart. the lyric, "and if it breaks, we'll bring it down. take it apart, spread it around." seems to be talking about the person completely realizing their mental state, and just giving up by tearing their life apart, and spreading it around.

It is definitely heat escaping. I like to think of someone who loves fall time and hates the cold of winter. "And when the seasons get you down" And how the beautiful leaves die and wither. "Out your window looks like all of the colors, all of them melting down." Then winter comes along and the heat escapes, you shiver in your clothes, the glass frosts, and you can barely sleep. I love the melody at the end. |

I think it sounds like a relationship issue, where someone was pretending to be in love with you, but the one thing that struck you "shakes off your disguise" and "faux sun falling" might represent the sun as the good things you experienced, and realizing it was all a lie and watching it fall in front of you. "It's over, it's gone" and "Where is the sun? Has it set?" "What is? and what is not?" Or, what's real, and whats fake, i can't tell!

I never used to like most of the Abaddon songs, that is, until i really opened my ears to listen to the lyrics. I think that's the magic with Pinback. I definitely think this song is about death. He is describing the times he had, that he'll never have again. And needing to "calm himself" because he's hyperventilating. The part i find most sad is "I'm alright, what was that sound? woke me up, now you're around" as if he thinks that either the person might just still be alive, or a hallucination. Either way, this song is absolutely incredible. I always hear my friend calling Pinback "Depresso Espresso", and sure, some of their songs are depressing. But that's also a great way to cope, writing songs. I really like the bass line at the start. Great song. Great band. |
