Guessing this song is about a partner with cluster B personality disorder (borderline, narcissistic, or antisocial). First Verse: narrator observing her devaluation/discard phase of being wounded (narcissistic injury) causing her to lash out at her new supply. Second Verse: describes a sexually promiscuous woman who people see cumming, and going, moving from one encounter and/or narcissistic supply to the next. Bridge: aging narcissists have to face that they eventually age out of being able to attract and discard new narcissistic supplies. The people who took advantage of her, and those whom she did, are no longer available. She thinks love is going person to person, experiencing New Romantic experience after next; those new supplies at her door, and those behind her. Probably not what Beck meant, but you see this so often in the modern sexual marketplace, it’s hard not to consider he’s taking about someone lost in their childhood trauma, thereby being unattainable for something long term, thus being a lost cause. |
