I think this song is about sociopaths or the like and the effect they have on you if you let them. I think people who are less sensitive to guilt or remorse have a far better understanding of how to manipulate the human mind. And people usually think it's a complicated game they play, but really all they do is hide in plain site. And in hindsight it's always so obvious the way you were manipulated, often to the point of feeling deep shame and loss of confidence (and hair lmao). But often people's insecurities keep them blind, and sociopaths know how to exploit those things on a primal level. IMHO, I think sociopaths have an important place in the world to teach people these kinds of lessons. Also sociopathy is always caused by trauma or something cliche and tragic so try not to be too hard on them, fair consequences aside. But the word fair is a made up word and sociopaths know this. Also I think everyone's wrong on the paying attention lyrics, I think it's "Because yeah I might be paying attention". I think the only way you ever really get a leg up on some sociopath who's doggin on you in a situation where you're forced to be around them is playing dumb and paying attention to everything they do. But if you don't have to be around these sociopaths, and you never really do, better not to get involved. Radiohead poggers, first concert I ever saw |

I think this song is about a depressing but ultimately healthy growing point in a person's life where they break their habit of delusional relationship dynamics whether that be with family, friends, or SOs. Living your life through people who do the bare minimum to keep you around, leaving or being left by them and only having yourself to blame, having no redemption or closure, becoming cynical as a result of this happening a lot for long durations, but then reaching a point where you really have to ask yourself what you want in life and who are the people you want around for that, there are too many things that you're never gonna know about why such and such treated you such a way and you can't force other people to validate your past, regardless of this realization it will still be a life changing and painful experience (apparently most depressions tend to dissipate in about a year), and having this dramatic realization does not make whatever happened to you any less fucked up or like unexplainably personal and convoluted etc. people who covet control in these horrible situations will always drag it out to the lowest standard of human morality, and these situations also have ripples in your whole social existence and cause people to go into like triple sometimes even quadruple delusional perspectives on the situation, but ultimately, the real ones will reach out to you and nobody really gives a fuck in the end and you should just take the opportunities you get and keep busy doing what helps you live life the way you want to live it. This song made me realize that this is what literally everyone goes through in life every single time, no exceptions |
