The song has 3 acts, which for the longest time I didn't see: Act 1: On the surface things are fine, but on the inside they are not, they are actually really bad Act 2: I am confessing things are bad and admitting that I need help Act 3: Innocence, I have hope for the future, escape from the nightmare of fear and shame This closely mirrors the Christian journey. We come face to face with the nightmare of reality and cry out to help for God, who gives us innocence through Jesus. The three lines of Innocence at the end remind me of Peter. He denied knowing Jesus three times before Jesus was killed on the cross. After Jesus rose he appeared to Peter and asked Peter three times if Peter loved Jesus, showing Peter he was forgiven and giving him new purpose. |
