@[ascendgods:48482] I always thought the lyrics were on screen on SNL because people can have some trouble understanding what he's singing sometimes :) and Cars was well known enough...what's the hint on The Pleasure Principle? The pyramid?
As for the pipe bomb...I've heard about that, I'm a bit curious as to what 'secrets' you think he might have had? Just genuine curiosity! |

One of my faves! I still don't know exactly what it means to "take a slowcar [sic] to China", but I agree with the other comment; it's definitely about him falling in love with a prostitute. But I always thought maybe said prostitute had no interest in that kind of relationship or something like that.

This is such a good song...I adore 'Telekon', and this track is just......wow!! The synth and viola (like the other commenter mentioned), especially the 2nd time around with the piano underneath it, is gorgeous 😍 very pretty. |

Great, absolutely awesome album opener - terrible single though! I couldn't understand parts of what he was singing so I went to look at the lyric sleeve...and there was freaking Japanese hiragana where I expected English words to be! I love languages and speak 2 (and 1/2 lol), it irritated me to no end back then that I didn't even notice he had started singing in a language other than English in the middle of the song!! It is a fantastic example of how his voice can make understanding him...quite difficult at times hahaha.
Now, NOW I've got the Japanese bit, in hiragana, tattooed on my arm, just under Gary's face (from the Tubeway Army album) on my wrist. This song will always be special to me!! |

I agree with the comments about the song sounding like goofing off and/or a party (that sounds too cool for Gary tbh ;) ). Not quite unlistenable imo, gotta admit I enjoy it now and then! |
