This song perfectly encapsulates my confusing, depressed, lonely teen years, especially when i was exploited for my body. “They don’t know i used to sail the deep and tranquil sea.” makes me burst into tears nearly every listen. Also makes my “girl, interrupted syndrome” side feel validated. One of my favorite songs by Fiona, following Carrion, Oh well, and for her. |

I think of it being about putting so much energy and love into someone and they take it and you for granted, possibly manipulating you because of your vulnerability and love. You take this really hard and don’t understand what you did wrong because you care so much about them and their opinion. That applies to friends and lovers.
Oh Well also reminds me of a guy wanting me for my body. |

I take ladies to be about women who used to be like “my boyfriends new bitchy girlfriend” realizing they are all just women who have unjust hatred towards each other (likely from internalized misogyny) but the repeating of ladies ladies ladies is like telling women to sit down “Ladies ladies calm it down!” that’s just me but i like to imagine it like that. |
