I love this song since I first heard it when I was about 15 years old. I played in a number of garage bands, but this song really has a haunting Melody line and story. For years I thought this was about lost love, but after considering all of the verses I think this man sits on a county farm, otherwise a southern prison, because he murdered Willie Jean, dumped her in the river, and wonder if she ever made it down to the Gulf of Mexico. |
