This song came on my Spotify randomly and I instantly recognised it, it’s like it uncovered a memory or deep level of nostalgia. I knew I’d heard it before yet couldn’t remember where. I checked and it was released in 1998. I was only born in 2000. I sent it to my mum and asked if she remembered it but she didn’t. I must have heard it on the radio or TV as a child and it stayed with me all this time. For some reason the song makes me think of some kind of terrorist or random attack - the melodies and music itself are quite scary to me. When it says ‘someone is watching all of the outsiders’ and ‘from a safe distance’ it makes me think of someone plotting from a distance, watching people gather to wait to kill. And this line ‘the final moment in the dead of night’ and ‘there is a feeling that you should just go home’ - this idea that you should or could be somewhere else; but instead you found yourself here by chance in the midst of a killing. I know this isn’t the true meaning, but I’ve been searching for a comment by someone who feels the same? |
