The tone of the whole song gives me a feeling that this is a fallen hero. At one point they believed things could be better. This is about a person they are really close to and they may not understand them exactly but they understand that persons spirit which might even be deeper. They have a belief that it isn’t about being the strongest but having those around you that you can depend on. A lesson they seem to feel the person they care about hasn’t learned yet. This person lies, cheats, steals, and does all sorts of things that would disappoint one’s mother but the narrator seems to feel we all have our faults. We all do what we do just to get by, please our crowds, and survive. We have to view ourselves as the hero but really that isn’t what we are. We are just a bunch of dysfunctional people trying to scrap by. The fallen hero seems to have made this jump from hero to deeper understanding that we are all both the heros and villains and ultimately we are all just trying to get through life which is hard. There are too many layers to really formulate it into a cohesive thought. This is the best I could do. |
