Gillian Welch – Annabelle Lyrics 2 years ago
What a song ! So much pain, beautifully crafted, full off compassion and faith.
The hardest test by God that ever was, losing your child. Even as a childless woman I can feel this pain through this song.

Michelle Shocked – Memories of East Texas Lyrics 2 years ago
My total favourite song since it came out ! When I was young and still now, for me it captures that feeling of being a young woman in some province so perfectly, longing to get out of the small-mindedness of her small-town environment.
"...You know their lives run in circles so small
and they thought they've seen it all,
but they could not make a place
for a girl who'd seen the ocean."

The Dubliners – The Sun Is Burning Lyrics 2 years ago
Luke Kelly at his best !
It is actually a powerful song about the atomic bomb.

The Chieftains – School Days Over Lyrics 2 years ago
It was, as far as I know, written by the great Ewan MacColl who had Scottish roots.
Luke Kelly probably sang it best, belting it out with so much compassion for the working class, since he, along with others, made working class songs hugely popular for the "other classes". It really is so full of heart. When I was a kid and my English non-existent, I thought it was just about the sad ending of the school holidays.
