I’ve always seen this song as just someone who holds a lot of pain and damage that just wants someone to truly see them as they are and finally treat them kindly, even if the other party is aware they may often get hurt too. The narrator is full of hurt and they often blow up/“throw a fit” or “unfold.” But they still just want to still be loved, patiently, gently. Maybe it’s because I have always related to this song and I have PTSD but it certainly feels like this song is about way more than just commitment or lack thereof. It feels like there’s a yearning to have “domesticated bliss,” but feels that their form of love simply doesn’t work that way. They just want to be loved, “simply simple.” |
