| @[keylon1120:47955] Except that Jerry Cantrell was the songwriter (and wrote many if not most of AIC's songs). Jerry was never addicted to heroin. | |

| @[cosmicone:47954] It's not satanic. The arranging & choice of words often has to do with how it sounds when sung. "Teach thee...." sounds a lot better than, "Teach you....." or "Teach us...." or any other word that would make sense in the song. | |

| @[rarelyusethissite:47952] I personally hate the song Over Now. I haven't over-analyzed it, but it seems to be about Jerry's attitude towards Layne. It just feels a tiny bit callous. Of course, addicts wear people out over time, destroying their trust & breaking their hearts. But I still love Layne & know he did the best he could. | |

| @[StarGazer7897:47951] There is a lot of evidence that the so-called interview with Adriana Rubio was actually made up--by Adriana Rubio. There isn't a single other corroborating testimony to what Layne supposedly told Adriana. Even his own family members & closest friends find it hard to believe that Layne would say what's written in that interview. | |

| @[Grind838:47950] Let's see...the lyrics; the music; the message conveyed by the song; the best gift a musician can offer someone they care about, writing a song about them...it's a sort of love song written by Jerry for Andy Wood. Absolutely beautiful. | |

| @[fugnar:47948] of course it was intentional. Jerry Cantrell is a wordsmith if there ever was one. | |

| @[americanscientist:47947] Nope, nope, & nope. Jerry Cantrell wrote this song about his friend Andy Wood. Layne used heroin for the first time in 1992. This song was written in 1991 or earlier, since it came out in 1992. It had nothing to do with Layne when written (though sadly, could have been applied to him later). | |

| @[robinjay490:47945] Agree with some of what you have here, but the song was written just before Layne used heroin for the first time in 1992. He was not an overnight addict...at least, he was able to function for another year or two before his heroin use became obvious & took over his life. The song was only about Andy Wood. (Though it sadly later could have been applied to Layne, as well. That's what makes it so haunting to me, hearing Layne sing it on Unplugged). | |

| @[aicguy22:47944] Yeah...Andrew Wood and his overdose on HEROIN!!! The song is about not judging people who make mistakes--like relapsing on HEROIN. Many of AIC's songs ARE about heroin, even the ones Jerry wrote. From Andy Wood's death from a heroin overdose in 1990, the guys in AIC watched many, many friends (not the least being Layne himself) get destroyed by heroin. So yes, many if not most of their songs had something to do with heroin. Just the way it is. | |

@[teratur:47943] For the most part, I disagree. The entire song is about Andrew Wood, written after his death by heroin overdose. Here's my take: Know me broken by my master BROKEN/KILLED BY A HEROIN OVERDOSE. HEROIN BEING HIS MASTER. Teach thee on child of love hereafter (ANDY WOOD CALLED HIMSELF LANDREW THE LOVE CHILD, WHICH FRIENDS FOUND HILARIOUS BUT ALSO LOVELY). TEACH THEE ON, CHILD OF LOVE, HEREAFTER. AFFECTIONATE TRIBUTE TO ANDY WOOD & ALL HE TAUGHT THOSE WHOSE LIVES HE TOUCHED. TEACH ON, MY FRIEND, WHEREVER YOU ARE. Into the flood again GOT OUT OF REHAB, STAYED CLEAN FOR A WHILE, THEN BACK INTO THE FLOOD AGAIN. RELAPSE. Same old trip it was back then LOOKING FOR A NEW/BETTER HIGH BUT IT'S THE SAME OLD SHIT. So I made a big mistake OD'D ON HEROIN AND DIED. Try to see it once my way TRY TO UNDERSTAND WHY I FELT I HAD TO USE AGAIN. PLEASE DON'T JUDGE ME. Drifting body it's sole desertion DRIFTING DEAD BODY...SOUL HAS DESERTED IT. Flying not yet quite the notion MANY BELIEVE THE SOUL HANGS AROUND THE BODY FOR A PERIOD OF TIME AFTER DEATH BEFORE "FLYING AWAY". Into the flood again Same old trip it was back then So I made a big mistake Try to see it once my way Into the flood again Same old trip it was back then So I made a big mistake Try to see it once my way Am I wrong? DOUBTS Have I run too far to get home? NOW HE HAS DIED...CAN'T EVER GET BACK. Have I gone? DIED And left you here alone? I'VE DIED AND LEFT YOU ALL (WHO LOVED ANDY) ALONE Am I wrong? Have I run too far to get home? Have I gone? And left you here alone? If I would, could you? HE DID NOT COMMIT SUICIDE!!! IF I WOULD...TRY TO GET CLEAN, THEN RELAPSE; COULD YOU? IT'S ABOUT GETTING HONEST WITH ONESELF INSTEAD OF JUDGING ANDY'S CHOICES. |

| @[thegasman:47942] Reading this 13 years later, & hoping you and/or both of you ultimately got clean & neither lost their lives. I'm in recovery myself, 14 years, & know how hard it is. Wishing you all the best & hoping you're both okay. There's actually nothing better than having a boyfriend in recovery when you're in recovery yourself. | |

@[prehistoricfelix:47941] Or "if I would use heroin one more time, end up dying & thus leaving you here alone after promising you all I'd get clean...could you?" Not as romantic maybe, but makes a lot more sense to me. I feel they were warning those who might have judged Andy Wood for relapsing again after rehab & asking people to get honest with themselves--if he would do it...could you? And unfortunately, as someone in recovery, my answer is OF COURSE I could (and probably would have). |

| @[thecallofktulu1993:47939] Good observations, as well as the replies. The song was well-known to be written about Andy Wood (one of the few AIC songs with a truly well-documented source). Sadly, hearing Layne sing it on Unplugged, it could have been written about himself. | |
| Alice in Chains – Again Lyrics | 2 years ago |
| I think it's a back-and-forth between Layne & Jerry regarding the split in their friendship due to Layne's repeated drug use (after promising again and again and again and again to get it together). Layne's feelings were hurt by what he saw as his bandmates rejection of him. | |
