Paul Simon – 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover Lyrics 7 months ago
A man is continuously lamenting his inability to leave his wife with his mistress.

The mistress, who is compassionate but at this point completely done with his cogitation and delay standing in the way of both of their happiness, pushes him one last time to make the change, but he just can’t figure it out. All his options seem unachievable.

So she shows him. They sleep on it — and in the morning, she’s gone.

Rilo Kiley – A Man/Me/Then Jim Lyrics 1 year ago
@[heeeyyyjude:52798] I appreciate your analysis, but the woman on the phone relents that her husband is leaving HER. The woman in the third verse is clearly the one who did the leaving, and it's implied she too is talking to a Jim.

I read the phrases "slow fade of love," "living is the problem" and possibly even the name Jim as connecting themes of otherwise disconnected narratives between a whole bunch of people whose true connective tissue is difficulty coping with a loss they don't understand.

Jim Croce – Box #10 Lyrics 2 years ago
The pattern of this song, with misfortunes keep happening to this potential troubadour every time he gets access to money, has always reminded me of the stories junkies have told me when trying to bum money for a score.

I believe this lad went to the city and quickly fell into drugs. He burned through his cash, wired for more money, burned through that and wound up selling his axe. He's creating a story for his folks so they'll send funds without him feeling guilty about the ruse.
