In an interview, David Gahan and Martin Gore expressed that they were on the spectrum. As someone who is also on the spectrum (asd) for me, this song is about the relief that comes from the lack of the senses of reality. Everything stops being so blaring. It becomes bliss. You walk around freely. Undisturbed by society. Your senses aren’t overwhelmed. It’s peaceful. No longer overwhelming. And it’s about the romanticism that comes from belief in something better. A sense of relief. A sense of hope. A sense of a better reality that you experience when everything is darker. That when you are dreaming, lost in romanticism, the world seems so much more beautiful. |
