Personally. I think it could be about battling something dark but denying it and trying to be "normal" and hiding it from others. It could be a secret, emotion, regret, thought, etc. Anything that "breathes in the dark". I'll go straight into the verse 1 chorus "Forgiving who you are, for what you stand to gain" Accepting yourself and the things you have done "Just know that if you hide, it doesn't go away" No matter how well you keep up the happy act, you are still in denial of a monster inside of you. I wont do the entire chorus because a lot of the lyrics are obscure, so I will only focus on the ones that fit my interpretation, to keep this short. "The humor's not the same, coming from denial" Trying to do something to make yourself or others happy, but it feeling different because it only exists as a coping mechanism. "Oh-oh, I grieve in stereo, the stereo sounds strange" Now this has to be one of my personal favorite lyrics of this song. It's about the singer (idk his name) using music as a way to vent, and to "grieve". His music is a way for him to cope and explain his problems, but as he states, "the stereo sounds strange", he feels as if the things he is saying don't make sense, and only he can understand, as the listeners of this song need THIS SITE to have some level of understanding of the lyrics. It could also be when explaining his problems to people non-lyrically. It's probably about him making music about his inner demons and nobody understanding it with the term "stereo". But it could also be about him trying to vent out to friends, family, etc. But them misinterpreting it and misunderstanding it due to how complicated and hard to grasp it is. He can also hear himself explain and the things he is saying, knowing that he (in his mind) isn't making any sense. Therefore, the stereo sounds strange, he thinks his talking doesn't make sense, and that his music and lyrics don't either, and no one can relate to them. So he feels trapped and alone. He repeats "I know that if you hide, it doesn't go away". He's telling the listeners and himself that even if we try and act cool, there is still a darkness brewing inside each and every one of us. "Burn the page, my little dark age" This song could also be about being the only one seeing the chaos in the world around you. So he's telling himself to burn away this dark page in human history, where there are lies and chaos everywhere. Hence the name of the song. But I don't know if this is the meaning, I mean it's one lyric. It could also be about burning a dark page in your past, that you want to no longer remember. "All alone, horrified on the stage, my little dark age." He's alone in his struggles and he's horrified when he is challenged with the daunting task of explaining them. "The image of the dead, dead ends in my mind" This could be about trauma. Stating that the dead is staying stuck in his mind. Or it could also be taken metaphorically. "Policemen swear to god, love seeping from their guns. I know my friends and I, would probably turn and run" Ik this is a meme but. He's probably talking about it literally, but I think it's more metaphorical. Rather than the demon itself, he sees other tormentors, the "police" who judge him. And he says that he and his friends would run. Maybe run from problems, like being in denial, or run from guilt. "All alone, open eyed, burn the page, my little dark age." As I've said, it could be the "dark age" of one's self, or the "dark age" of the world around said one. "Open eyed" could mean, as I have stated being aware of the chaos around you. So in conclusion. This is about either, a dark past, a dark world, or a dark infestation haunting one's mind. Or it could be all three. It's also about having no one who understands you and having no one to turn to. And feeling trapped and alone, in your little dark age. |
