A Perfect Circle – When The Levee Breaks Lyrics 10 months ago
@[mota37:53055] That's an interesting take on it; a little double entendre. The original "When the Levee Breaks" was written in 1929 by a husband & wife blues duo, Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie, from Mississippi. They penned the tune after witnessing firsthand the devestation caused by the Mississippi River massively overflowing her banks in 1927. The river flooded 10 different states, causing around $1 billion ($17 billion today) in damages and displacing close to a million people, the large majority of whom were poor African American share croppers and their families who literally had no where else to go.
APC decided to include their haunting version of the old blues tune on their album "Emotive" as a reaction to global warming and to lament the effects the subsequent climate changes is bringing, evidenced by a string of record breaking hurricanes that struck the Gulf & Atlantic Coasts from 2000 to 2004.
