I have been listening to this song a lot lately, I know it's been out for awhile but that's never really bothered me as much as it may for other people. To me, this song really makes me feel heard. I am kind of an asshole, a jerk, not in the same way that Kanye and Pusha portray themselves in this song, but an asshole nonetheless. lot of the time, like Kanye and Pusha in this song, I feel like people should run away from me to avoid the hurt that I will more than likely cause them. For that feeling of acceptance, I am so grateful. While it isn't necessarily a pleasant feeling to know that you're an asshole, it's also nice to know that there are people like me out there. I feel like, a lot of the time, people from the outside looking in think that we assholes, we douchebags, don't have any regrets about our actions or about the way we feel about ourselves. That we all have that "I don't give a fuck" mentality. But I've never felt that way, I've always wanted to be a better person, but sometimes it's hard to break out of those habits. This song tells me that there are more people who feel that way about being who they are, and that makes me feel a little less bad about who I am.
Let me know if you can relate and, if you can, let's have a toast! |

this song means a lot to me, as i listened to it all the time when i was at one of the darkest periods of my life. to me, it means not being good enough for the people that you love the most and finally coming to terms with that fact. clearly, it is a continuation of the story on the downward spiral record, but that's just the interpretation of the song that i most identify with. the narrator is almost apologizing to their best friend, or possibly a lover, for the person that they have become and the way that they treat themselves and others. i deeply resonate with this song, at the darkest times in my life listening to this song has been a way to feel understood, to not feel alone. also totally agree that, while the johnny cash version of this song is outstanding, the original NIN version is just infinitely better. |

i know this isn't what the song was written to mean by the band members, but i think it's more fun to write about what a song means to you rather than what a band intended it to mean. for me, this song represents that there are two sides to myself, a side that i am comfortable with and want to share with everyone, and a side that i fucking hate and never want anyone to see, even though they do quite often. i think that a lot of people can relate to that, everyone has their demons and most people try their hardest to hide them from those they care about. the pain of always trying to hide a side of yourself is exhausting, and to me that is the pain corey is talking about. again, this is just what the song represents to me, don't get your panties in a twist fuckers. |

"I wanna slit your throat/And fuck the wound" is one of the most fucked up and honest lyrics in Slipknot's whole catalogue. great line, super fucked up but at the same time i think a lot of people have felt the kind of anger that results in saying something like this. this whole song is so brutally angry and unapologetic about that anger, they really want you to know exactly how they feel and don't give a fuck what you think about that. fucking tight man, some good old fashioned Slipknot shit. also love when he says "(down) scratching and clawing all the way/ (stay) you won't let me fuckin stay". the way he says it is so powerful and i can just relate to this music so much. |

This song is fucking (sic) dude. The live performance on the London 2002 Disasterpieces DVD is fucking insane, go watch it on youtube if you haven't seen it. Never seen a crowd jump like that, Sid is also insane lmao love that shit. Anyways, for me this song means to get rid of my depression and demons, like a cry out for help for the few people left in my life that actually give a shit to just get rid of all of the shit that makes me so god damn angry all the time. Thank god for Slipknot dude, wouldn't be here without them I swear. |

Love this song, Corey's ability to switch from melodic singing to full on brutal screaming is insanely impressive. Such a talented dude. Great riff and the percussion really adds a lot to this song, especially on the live version from the Disasterpieces DVD (London 2002).
I like how this song can mean something to everyone, as with most of Slipknot's songs. For me, it signifies that all those that I love and care about seem to eventually leave me behind, both in terms of success and in terms of just being there for me. I know that's not exactly what the band wrote the song about, but one of the greatest things about music like this is the personal meaning every listener takes from each song. Slipknot rules man, might not be the heaviest band ever, but no one writes songs like they do man. |

Most underrated Slipknot song of all time in my opinion. Probably my favorite song of theirs, so powerful, Corey fuckin owns this song. One of the most emotional vocal performances he's ever done, no doubt. THAT scream, if you know, you know. Killer song, killer album. Iowa = Slipknot's best work, brutally emotional and just fucking intense. Love this band like no other, Slipknot fucking rules. |

going through a situation which the lyrics of this song are perfect for. me and this girl have been best friends for awhile, yet at the same time we are both into each other. yet, she never seems to listen to what i want in the relationship and only cares about her thoughts and feelings. constantly ignoring my feelings and choosing to carry on as she sees fit. she constantly leads me on and then tells me in the end that she just wants to keep things how they are. to me, this song is a perfect representation of that. it is a cry out to the person you care about the most, that doesn't seem to recognize the fact that you care so much. |
