To me, this song is paralleling love with a bloodsport, meaning it's a toxic relationship. The singer refers to them as their weapon of choosing and he their weakness and favorite regret. The singer wants to rekindle a lost love that was exciting and magical even though it turned toxic and bad, he'd accept not getting into heaven just to be with this person again. He wants to admit every mistake to them and atone for what he did just to be back in their life. There are definitely some undertones that either parallel his actions to that of someone worshiping God or maybe they could be considered mockeries, but loving this person would require them to confess their sins even if it ruins things. He's required to have a religious-like dedication to this person. |

A "Roman Holiday" refers to making a spectacle of someone, or to cause pain, sort of like a masochist and sadist relationship. To me, these lyrics refer to a rebellious teen trouble maker who is in love and sort of getting their loved one in trouble with them. Halsey, or the antagonist seems to enjoy making her significant other anxious but for the purpose of enjoyment and freedom. |
