It is very deep there is little doubt about that.! My opinions are that it was a respective look at war,Peace ,History and the politics of violence. 16 Years- 1922 (the middle t of WW1 and 1938 the start of WW2) ,16 Banners-Europe and they're monarchies..and so on). The Palace of mirrors is where the Versailles treaty was dashed out.The Unification of Germany and all its catastrophic consequences.Hitler his Demonic ideology.His Satanic plans.His madness. Also the fight back which the whole world had to do!...Was so evil and disasterous that a whole generation had to do, again following on from The Great War:Lest we forget...+ All of our grandparents and great grandparents where blighted catastrophically by this insane despotic dictater his henchmen and they're generation. War more especially WW2 was not inevitable but the Versailles treaty did play a big factor. After the generation that went through there temptuous dalliance with Sex,Drugs and Alcohol that was the jazz age,Hamburg Movies the age whereby grudgeos tyrants such as the Generation that ended up as Churchill,Stalin,Hitler and his cronies, Roosevelt,The Hollywood set, Aleister Crowley,and such had been raised at a time that was hard for them where there was no major advances in Television,Electric had not been properly invented.So in that instance a Stern fear of all that is Dabbling in the Occult,Mysticism and Black Magic where seen as wrong,harmful and evil. However all these men,once they finally came of age did more than their fair share of. Christianity and Religion would play a role in Everything these evil luminaries would begrudge the World and many of them would go on to lead a life of Cruelty, Grudges turned around and generally bring Eart to the gates of Hell. Even now they're Actions on this world are both terrifying and Heartbreaking. But like whence they came to position s of power there politics gave way to War. Courage is like the Lion n the Wizard of Oz portrayed, Just a word for what you may be fighting for and against,in all sphere. It is so sad the damage they did.The Nazi's and Black magicians. There legacy remains forever a warning to the wise. They all served Satan as warmongers do. And history shows this in the song where he says Peace Will Come. The forming of Israel. With Tranquility in splendor on the wheels of fire where the false idols fall. Where cruel death surrenders with its Pan ghost retreating between the king and the queen of Swords. All violence breads violence no matter what how and when. It is about a deep a song as you can get. Very thought provoking.You can have Egregious people and then paradoxically Good rebellious people. They are different. |

I read somewhere in a book about Witchcraft connected to Gerald Kelly,that the song was about Aleister Crowley in part at his Abbey of Thelma in Cicily. Am not 100% sure which book I think it may have been a Geralk Kelly biography.Anyway Kelly knew Crowley from Cambridge. When Crowley went to Cicily he was perportted to be doing sex magick with a 'K' with others.Whildt drawing and painting weird,dark murals on the walls of nightmare scenes,the idea being that you could overcome your fears by looking at pictures of them. Hence the lyrics "We slept all night in the Virgin's bed and dreamed of death and breathed like sick dogs" and so on. The original LP copy of The Top where this song is the opening track originally featured a nasty demonic looking six pointed star as well as other symbols. Robert virtually produced a lot of this album on his own playing bass parts etc.using session drummers like he had with Vince Ely on some of the Japanese Whispers songs. Eventually Porl Thompson Andy Anderson and Phillip Thorn alley joined but he was still not talking to Simon Gallup,after they're bust up during the "Pornography" Tour. I hope one day to find this book again and update this. A very dark song indeed and used recently on they're latest Tour.2023 |
